What to visit in Ukraine?
In 2007, the Ukrainian government organised a competition to designate the “Seven Wonders of Ukraine” as follows: the Sofiyivsky Park in Ouman, the Kamianets fortress in Kamianets-Podilskyï, Khortytsia, the ruins of Chersonèse in Crimea near Sevastopol, the Khotyn fortress, the Pechersk Lavra (Monastery of the Caves) and Saint Sophie's cathedral in Kiev. Three other sites were also highly placed: the Ostroh castle, the Livadia Palace and the Pysanka museum in Kolomyia.
In addition, the city of Lviv offers a journey back in time via its architecture which reflects the different ruling powers in Ukraine's history: Lithuano-Polish, then Russian and Austrian.
On the Black Sea coast, discover the city of Odessa, the Crimean Pearl and, of course, the unmissable Yalta with its impressive baroque castle nicknamed the “Swallow's Nest”.
Hikers will enjoy walking in the Carpates mountain range with its breath-taking views.
